There’s something special about photography. The ability to capture something or someone and immortalize them forever is a concept that’s existed for almost as long as we have, but photography takes it a step further. Sure, you could write about something and more or less accomplish what a photo will, or you could make a painting of someone and capture them in visual form like a picture does. But a photo is a super-highway in the immortalization process. All it takes is one snap. And just like it takes real skill to write things that will last, or to paint someone’s personality onto the canvas, it takes know-how to capture someone’s personality and make it look beautiful in photography.
And for me, it’s one of my favorite things to do! That’s why I loved Lindsay’s session. I was able to capture her personality in her photos, and she made it an easy thing to do. We wanted to keep a nature theme going, while staying within city limits. Thankfully, there were a bunch of roses and hedges to keep us occupied. When you look back at the photos, you can just feel who Lindsay is, and that’s exactly what we were going for. There’s many aspects to her personality, too, and that’s where the outfits she chose fits in beautifully. Not only did they look great, they represented what she likes, and I was there to help compose everything into a pretty picture. We’re both the artists, in this sense!
It can be hard to find photographers willing to take the extra time to work with you to achieve your vision for a shoot. Often, they have all their own ideas for what looks best, and in doing so they trample over your personality, and take pictures that either look stale and posed, or just plain awkward. These are the kinds of photos that you’ll regret, and others will forget. That’s why finding that photographer that stands out from the crowd and values your ideas is important, and a needle in a haystack. I’ve spent years trying to hone this balance, and I pride myself on my ability to meld these two qualities into one professional experience!
