Why I HATE MLM’s……(and the answer might surprise you)
Yes! I side hustle for an MLM company and I promise this will make sense soon, so bear with me on this novel.
———————————————————————————
First, a little about me and my story for those of you who are new to the blog. You obviously know my name since I posted this I was born and raised in Central Texas where I met my AMAZING husband (I don’t just say that…he’s legit grade A). We never left our little farm town, located North of Austin, and have since built a life around two small businesses and two small kids.
.
.
It was about 2 years ago while at a photography conference that “oils” were first put into my field of vision. A new friend mentioned how she used an oil for this or that, and I wrote it off as she must be some kind of hippie and went about my day. Fast forward another year, my son is drowning in school work, having trouble sleeping and I’m becoming desperate. This is where I bought my first starter kit, hoping for a miracle cure to his insomnia. Since I was to the point of deciding between Benadryl and Chloroform, I figured, let’s stay out of jail and give these oils a shot. I ordered the kit from her and I wish I could say the rest was history, but…
.
.
So, the kit arrived. At the time, the starter kit came with Lavender AND Peace & Calming. I didn’t really know what I was doing, so I diffused the lavender and bedtime got easier, but without much knowledge I let my “potions” practice fade off for about another year and a half.
.
Fast forward to my past summer, where I was involved in a car accident. Nothing bad happened to us, this is not a melodramatic post. But it got me thinking, what if I had been injured? What if my wrist was broken, what if one day I get really sick, all the what ifs? The catch-22 of being a business owner to a company that you love, is that company completely depends on you. If I am out of commission, so is my business, and the income I bring home for my family.
.
.
I realized, I needed a back-up and passive form of income, that would work for me, even if I had to step away momentarily. This is also where a dear friend and mentor stepped in and told me about her new venture into Young Living. Y’all when God whispers to you, listen! Who was I to say no, what did I have to lose? So away I went.
.
.
I successfully made enough for these first months to cover my monthly order and our mortgage! I started hearing all these legends in the business, and hearing their testimonials and how they’ve blessed others from this “side hustle”.
.
.
After hearing from speakers like Glennon Melton, Jon Acuff and Lindsey Teague Moreno (who makes like a million A MONTH in this oil biz), I started to shift my mindset a bit. My biggest thing holding me back, was posting about the oils. Being annoying to friends and family. Feeling gross and sale-sy. But, I learned that if I can help 10 people with whatever ailment they are working through and I lose a few people along the way… it’s TOTALLY worth it.

Here’s the thing. God forbid something happens to myself, my husband or one of my kids, and I can’t devote as much time to photography as I currently do. If I hadn’t built an oil business prior to that hopefully never happening crazy time in life, we would been in BIG TROUBLE. Here’s the thing about direct marketing (aka: MLM) though…… it provides RESIDUAL INCOME. You literally work your own hours and then reap the benefits of a monthly check later when you can’t or don’t feel like working.

So it doesn’t sound like I really “hate” this MLM gig all that much, does it? Actually, I do.
• I hate the way MLM’s are viewed as a pyramid scheme. 1st those are illegal, 2nd ALL companies have a hierarchy that benefits the top, so what is the difference?
• I hate the way OTHER MLM’s run their business and it hurts those of us that are truly sharing something that will benefit your family for years to come.
• I hate the way friends and family make us feel about it, until they see the money and then they want in.
• I hate the way people post about it assuming everyone wants to stay home with their kids and quit their job. Guess what? Some people really like their corporate job and don’t want to stay home. That’s okay! We don’t need to hear how your MLM has blessed you with staying home all day on every post. BUT, wouldn’t some extra cash flow be nice and you won’t have to work soooooo hard to build up a fraction for retirement?
• I hate these trendy MLM’s that come and go and it takes away from companies like ours that aren’t going anywhere.
• I get just as annoyed with some friends MLM posts as you all do…even though….I’m in an MLM business. TRUST ME!

Here are a few points as to why this company is my end goal in life:
• I 100% love and trust all of the products Young Living provides. I wouldn’t sell them if I didn’t.
• They WORK!!! They sell themselves, I just share how I use them. Pretty easy to me.
• They’ve been around for over 35 years and aren’t going anywhere.
• I WHOLEHEARTEDLY believe that oils will be in every home in the next 5 years. Big Pharm and these cosmetics/household item companies aren’t getting any less scary. Why wouldn’t you want to be the person to help these families make that transition to a healthier lifestyle?
• We have transferred our monthly budget from using toxic household items to using all of Young Living’s household items that are plant based.
• I can be in a coma for the next year (not my goal) and my family will still be blessed with my monthly check.
• I currently average about $800-$1K a month (after 2 months) and I’ll be at the $2K mark by the end of the year. This seems like small potatoes, but what would you do with an extra $500-$2000 a month from a job you’ve held less than a year? Can your company give you a monthly or annual raise like that?
• That amount is residual and is higher than any retirement amount I would receive in 30 years.
• It is not up to me to decide who needs this business and could use the financial freedom in their lives….so that’s why I want to share the love with you all. You never know who needs it the most and when.
• The income is WILLABLE! Once I reach a certain point, should I leave this earth, I can pass my monthly income on to my kids. That sure won’t happen with my photography business.

If you made it through all of that…..WOW! I appreciate you. If you feel like you are wanting to start a chemical free journey for your household and/or start up your own side hustle for the long run, please email me, text me, comment on this post.

Whether you are looking to make extra money for the holidays or are really starting to grasp this residual income/financial freedom thing….All of our goals and dreams are different, but we can work together to achieve them.
