I just watched the most brilliant 90 seconds of advertising I have ever seen in my life. This isn’t an exaggeration, y’all, I’m dead serious. If you haven’t seen this T-Mobile commercial, currently popping up during my Wednesday night line up, watch it! Go ahead I’ll wait…

What did that commercial leave you feeling? Were you captivated, emotionally invested, eager to see where the story went? Did you cheer at the end? Did you want to send your mom a pic of the kids? How about yes to all of the above?
So what made this advertisement so genius? Well, you watched the entire thing first off. How many ads do you swipe or scroll right past, because it’s become white noise. This one kept you hooked until the end. You wanted to know who brought you this story, and you now felt an emotional connection to this company.
This friends, is the way successful marketing is done now. Through stories, through not screaming at your followers but inviting them to listen. Pull them up a chair and invite them to the table, and you have an audience for a conversation now.
Consumers want to feel connected to the brands they purchase from. So here are a few steps you can take to create a relationship with your followers.
- Tell them about yourself, not that you love what you do, that’s obvious. Tell them about you, make yourself a real person in their eyes, someone to connect with.
- Speak to them, don’t just shout buzzwords out into space. Speak directly to your client, what matters to them, what is valuable to them?
- Consider the meaning behind what you’re saying. Is it beneficial or are you simply humble bragging?
Take a lesson from T-Mobile here, identify who you want to speak and tell them a story that’s valuable to them!
Until next time, my creative friends!
xoxo
