If you live in a small town, you may be wondering how to find the right photographer. Your options may be quite limited; maybe just a few friends or family members who snap photos on the side, or traveling a long distance to do your senior shoot. We have a few pointers if you are struggling to find a solid artist in your area:
-Figure out how far you can feasibly travel. If you absolutely cannot travel out of the state, then determine with your parent or guardian which cities you can get to. Factor in gas money, time spent, and how to schedule this with a photographer. Then, begin searching for the best photographers in the cities that you can get to.
-If you cannot meet with photographers in person, FaceTime or call them. You can tell so much about a person by a quick phone call or consult. It is always imperative to make contact with any photographer you are going to use, especially if they are not in your area.
-Ask around: In a small town, you may be forced to use the same photographer as your friends. That is okay. Just be sure to make your expectations clear from the get-go, and ask how your shoot will be different from everyone else’s, especially if you are at the same high school as many other people. Ask about props, sports equipment, and poses that you can do to set yourself apart.
We are proud to offer senior portraits in the Austin, Texas area (and teen sessions like Madison’s below), and hope these tips help if you are unable to find a photographer in a metro area!
